Local man overcomes health risks with the help of Wyboston Lakes Health & Leisure Club
Local man Derek Wilson, a sufferer of a serious and debilitating heart condition, has been given a new lease of life through the support and help of the team at Wyboston Lakes Health & Leisure Club.
- Derek has been a sufferer of Chronic Atrial Fibrillation, a serious and debilitating heart condition, for more than 20 years
- After the doctors had tried a broad range of drugs and surgical procedures including Electro-Cardio version (using electricity to “shock” the heart back into sinus rhythm) Derek was still no better and finally stopped receiving treatment, but had the dubious “claim to fame” of being the most cardioverted man alive in Europe
Derek Wilson commented:
I joined Wyboston Lakes Health & Leisure Club in May 2011, weighing 85 KG, with seriously high blood pressure and with over 25% body fat. After two years of hard work and under close supervision and guidance from Jake Wenman, my personal trainer, I am now in great shape with under 15% body fat, normal blood pressure and I weigh in at less than 78 KG. My cardiologist, Dr. Andrew Grace said it was hard to believe I was the same man and I am proud to say I have a heart health age of 40 – not bad for a 50 year old with Chronic Atrial Fibrillation!
Josh Cooper, health and fitness manager, commented:
It has been a real pleasure to watch Derek grow in confidence and really turn his health around at the club. All of the team here is so supportive and really listens and works with each individual client’s needs. Well done Derek – we’re all very proud of you!
