Local fitness team take on dragon boat race to raise £300 and counting for SCOPE
On Saturday 9th August a team from Wyboston Lakes Health and Leisure Club entered the St Neots Dragon Boat Race and have raised £300 and counting for SCOPE, the charity dedicated to supporting disabled people and their families.
- The team, comprising 13 members, competed in three 200-metre races in a 30’ dragon boat against more than 20 other teams from the local area.
- The team donated £350 to take part in the event and has so far raised a further £300. Donations are still being collected, contact Ryan Baxter on 01480 403233 for more information.
- The team from Wyboston won the fastest timed dragon boat race in the St Neots Dragon Boat Race festival and came 2nd in the main race, narrowly losing out by just 0.3 of a second.
- The team was supported by many members of the club, who offered their encouragement, well wishes and sponsorship. To promote healthy living amongst the local community, the team also manned a stall at the event where they handed out 1Life freebies and offered free fitness tips and information.
Jonny Queen, Contract Manager at the club, commented:
“It was a fantastic day at the boat race, the sun was shining and the team worked so well together. It was a real credit to the team how many members of the club and the local community came down to support them. It was also a great opportunity to speak to the local community about their own health and fitness.”
