American children are spending up to 30 percent of their week online, according to a new survey. This equates to more than 50 hours spent surfing the web, streaming TV and playing games per week, rather than pursuing traditional creative pastimes. Sugru to double retail presence in North America with new family-safe glue
The inventor behind the world’s first moldable glue, Sugru, has today launched a brand new Family-Safe, Skin-Friendly Formula expected to double the brand’s presence in North American retail by the end of 2018.
Sugru’s new Family-Safe formula will be available alongside Original Sugru moldable glue – the major difference being that children as young as eight years old can use it to fix and redesign their things without the need for adult supervision.
More than 3,000 retail outlets in the US currently stock Original Sugru and many of them, including Menards, Ace Hardware and True Value, operate within the DIY market. The new Family-Safe Skin-Friendly formula is set to double this number, opening up opportunities with new craft, stationery and mass market retailers as well as increasing presence within existing retailers such as Target and The Container Store.
Inventor and Sugru CEO, Jane ni Dhulchaointigh comments:
“When I first had the idea for Sugru, I imagined this space age rubber that could fix and improve almost anything. The first step was to make something strong and durable and the second step was to make something everybody could use.
The new family-safe formula truly allows us to realize this dream and tripling our reach into retail in North America is a great way to achieve our biggest ambition – to get the next generation fixing and making again.”
Sugru has recently been successfully launched in France and South Africa with plans in place to launch in Canada, Australia and New Zealand by the the end of 2017.
Originally invented to help people repair and improve things, Jane ni Dhulchaointigh and her team has developed an award-winning patented material that molds like play-dough, sticks to almost anything and turns into a strong flexible rubber overnight. Launched in 2009, more than 14 million single-use packs have now been sold in more than 175 countries and territories worldwide with the company growing an average rate of over 30 percent year-on-year from 2013 to 2016.
The new product is a direct result of regular investment in the company’s future-focused research and development projects, in part made possible with the support of the public via two very successful crowdfunding campaigns. Since 2015 Sugru has raised more than $6.5M from over 4,600 investors, breaking two crowdfunding records and winning several awards along the way.
Sugru’s new Family-Safe, Skin-Friendly Formula will be available online at Sugru.com from September 20th for $12 for a 3 use pack.
