About Orchard Pig

Orchard Pig is the cider and juice company well and truly Rooted in Somerset™, where it all began in the noughties with Andrew Quinlan and Neil Macdonald enjoying their home-made cider and hog roast with friends. Born out of a shared passion for great food and old Spots; the original orchard pigs, and an accidental discovery that Somerset cider apples make a stonkingly good drink.

Orchard Pig hires its first Sales Director to bring home the bacon

Independent cider brand, Orchard Pig, has struck gold and added the X factor with its latest hire. Tony Watson, former Nationals Business Unit Vice President at Carlsberg, joins the company as its very first Sales Director to help drive its ambitious expansion plans.

  • This year Orchard Pig exceeded £10 million of retail sales, with its Reveller cider up by 85% in the On Trade, making it the fastest growing apple cider in the UK. In his new role, Watson will be driving the sales team to double the turnover in the not too distant future.
  • Watson brings with him 21 years experience working in commercial roles within the On and Off drinks trade sectors at Carlsberg, where he rose through the ranks from sales representative to Nationals Business Unit Vice President. In his last role, Watson was accountable for 78% of Carlsberg UK’s volume across Carlsberg, San Miguel, Tetley’s, Holsten, Skol, and Somersby Cider brands.
  • Orchard Pig is currently available in over 4,500 On and Off trade accounts across the UK with new distribution being agreed at record levels in all trade channels including a recent agreement with Zizzi’s to stock Orchard Pig Reveller Cider and range of adult soft drinks in all its restaurants.

Tony Watson commented:

“My first taste of Reveller and experience with the Orchard Pig brand really made me think differently about cider and showed me how exciting the industry could be. It’s an interesting time for the cider category as a whole – expectations and tastes have become more sophisticated in recent times which gives us scope to really grow the market beyond your typical offerings. I’m eager to get stuck in and make pigs fly!”

Orchard Pig founder, Andrew Quinlan, said:

“Putting our cider into cans really catapulted our modern character into the mainstream this year and it’s brilliant to now be the fastest growing apple cider in the UK. With so many possibilities ahead of us it quickly became clear that we needed to build the new Sales Director role to help maximise these opportunities. Meeting Tony it was clear he completely grasped Orchard Pig’s potential and understood what we are trying to do – that was enough to convince us that he’s the right person to take Orchard Pig to new heights”.
