Southampton Sous Chef gears up to cycle from North to South of UK in just thirteen days
The Sous Chef at Novotel Southampton is taking on the extreme challenge of cycling 1,300 miles in 13 days to raise money for the charity Teenage Cancer Trust.
Kick-starting his challenge in Glasgow, Glyn Colderwood, a Senior Sous Chef at the Novotel hotel in his hometown of Southampton, will be spinning the wheels of his bike all the way, stopping over at thirteen Novotel hotels enroute.
He’ll pass through 13 cities on this epic route, including Newcastle, Leeds, Liverpool, Bristol and London, with the aim of fundraising over £5,000 for Teenage Cancer Trust. The charity is close to his heart after his brother and father both lost battles to different types of cancer two years ago.
Commenting on his upcoming challenge, Glyn Colderwood said:
“The countdown has begun for my big ride and I’m really excited to hit the road and start touring the Novotel hotels across the UK for a cause that means so much to me. If you spot me along the way, be sure to say hello!”
Cycling cross-country through English hills and major cities, his longest stretch to complete along the way will be on day two, where he’ll conquer a distance of 144 miles between Novotel Edinburgh Centre and Novotel Newcastle Airport.
This isn’t the first time Glyn has taken on an impressive physical feat, previously walking 400 miles over 10 days and 600 miles over 15 days. His ambition is to take on a new challenge every year.
Thea Karavasili, Corporate Partnerships Manager at Teenage Cancer Trust, said:
“We’re truly honoured that Glyn has chosen to fundraise for Teenage Cancer Trust in memory of his late brother and father. The money raised by his incredible challenge will help make sure that our specialised Teenage Cancer Trust nurses, support teams, and hospital units can be there for young people throughout their cancer treatment and beyond.”
Patrick Le Henaff, General Manager at Novotel Southampton:
“All the staff at the hotel are behind Glyn, he’s such an inspiring guy and colleague. We and everyone across the Novotel group will be cheerleading him on as he taps in at each Novotel property on his route.”
