Mercure trains staff to de-mist-ify unpredictable British weather for guests with leading meteorologist
Getting caught in the rain: Mercure hotels trains staff with leading meteorologist to read weather signs and become on-demand Weather Forecasters for guests
Thursday 17th October – Whatever the weather, travellers can now ensure their UK break won’t be a washout as Mercure hotels has teamed-up with a leading meteorologist to train staff to be on-demand weather-forecasters.
The weather can make or break a holiday and with Britain’s forecast being famously unpredictable, plans can be quickly washed away if the heavens suddenly open. You can be in Bristol and be licking an ice lolly, but battling storms in Sheffield.
Cue Mercure hotels, which this week rolled-out a unique training programme with a revered meteorologist and CEO of Weather Quest, Prof. Stephen Dorling, to turn staff into seasoned weather-forecasters.
Equipped with the skills to predict changes in the climate and spot weather signs, Mercure staff are on hand to help guests navigate unexpected turns and get the most from discovering local in the UK.
Knowing their Cumulus from Cirrocumulus clouds, they can now advise on what to do and where to go come rain or shine in six regions, including London, Bedford, Brighton and Aberdeen.
As part of Mercure’s ‘Discover Local Whatever the Weather’ service, guests are also able to access curated weather guides tailored to each city for different climates.
Professor Stephen Dorling, Professor of Meteorology and CEO of Weather Quest commented: “With the climate becoming more variable and the weather more extreme, it’s great to work with Mercure to train their staff on reading key weather signs. We all know how changeable the British weather can be, and now more than ever before, it’s valuable to be one step ahead of the game.”
James Wheatcroft, Mercure spokesperson, said: “Travel planning and the weather are inextricably linked, and whilst our staff are all experts on the local discoveries in their area, a drop of rain can throw plans up in the air instantly. We’re proud to be upskilling our staff to read the weather and minimise this with Stephen’s support, allowing them to make the most of their trip, whatever the weather.”
Darren Talberg, General Manager at a Mercure hotel said: “Helping guests have the best local experiences during their visit is really important to us, so it’s great to learn the ways of the weather with Stephen and grow our unique offering in this way.”
The unique service launches as Mercure becomes the official sponsor of Channel 4 Weather, airing everyday alongside the lunchtime and evening bulletins into 2020.
Mercure’s ‘Discover Local Whatever the Weather’ service is available at the following UK hotels: Mercure Bedford Centre, Mercure Aberdeen Ardoe House, Mercure London Bridge, Mercure Bristol Holland House, Mercure Sheffield St Paul’s.
