iwoca COMMENT: PayPal launches PayPal Working Capital

“PayPal’s foray into small business lending is a clear indicator that ecommerce is booming. With the sector growing rapidly, we welcome another player to the market as it can only serve to empower more entrepreneurs and further fuel UK business growth.

Whilst it is a positive move, PayPal’s initiative is rather one-dimensional compared to other alternative lenders out there. For example, we’ve worked hard over the past six months to offer online businesses multiple ways to prove their credit worthiness. Beyond PayPal transactions, customers can also link up their Magento and Shopify accounts, ebay and Amazon seller profiles, FreeAgent accountancy software and SagePay payments. This enables iwoca to instantly understand a business and within minutes assess its credit worthiness.

Access to finance is imperative for small business growth and with an archaic, ill-equipped banking system, we’re pleased that the small business lending sector is buoyant.”

Christoph Rieche, CEO at iwoca
