About BrewDog

We were bored of the industrially brewed lagers and stuffy ales that dominate the UK market. We decided the best way to fix this undesirable predicament was to brew our own beers. Consequently in April 2007 BrewDog was born. Both only 24 at the time, we leased a building, got some scary bank loans, spent all our money on stainless steel and started making some hardcore beers.

BrewDog marks official opening of new Edinburgh bar with tattoo offer

BrewDog, Scotland’s largest independent brewery will today officially open the doors to a craft beer bar in Edinburgh’s Cowgate, following the growing success of its debut bar, BrewDog Aberdeen, which opened last year. The location of the new venue was crowd-sourced by craft beer fans following an appeal on the BrewDog website for enthusiasts to help find potential locations in their home towns. To celebrate the opening and its further expansion plans BrewDog will offer a lifetime 20 percent discount at BrewDog Edinburgh for patrons bearing a BrewDog tattoo.

  • BrewDog Edinburgh is situated at 143 Cowgate, on the premises of a disused ‘Chasers’ bar
  • There will be a 20 percent discount for drinkers that reveal a permanent tattoo of the BrewDog name or logo. A lifetime offer, the discount will apply to a limit of three drinks per visit for fans.
  • The building has been stripped out and transformed into an industrial and contemporary space, with a reclaimed brick bar that puts the beer at the centre of attention
  • Alongside BrewDog beers, the bar will offer a range of rare beers from around the world
  • By the end of 2011, BrewDog hopes to have a bar in at least five different UK cities.

James Watt, co-founder of BrewDog commented:

“We see BrewDog Edinburgh adding to the city’s already burgeoning craft beer scene and making Edinburgh one of the best craft beer destinations in Europe.”

“Unlike the corporate, mainstream giants in the beer world, our customers play a direct role in the development and success of our business. They have helped create new beers, chosen the destination of our new bar and even had the opportunity to buy shares in the company. BrewDog Edinburgh is as much an achievement of the craft beer revolution as it is of BrewDog.” James continued.
