Local ladies swim 5k to raise money for charity!
Three ladies from Tavistock organised a 5km swim at Meadowlands Leisure Pool last month, which raised more than £3,700 for the local charity Abbi’s Helping Hands.
- Meadowlands Leisure Pool donated a lane to the cause so that Lisa Piper, Vikki Smith and Jessica Barns, were able to swim their sponsored 5km, which they completed in under four hours
- The charity, Abbi’s Helping Hands was created in honour of local girl Abbigail Jillians, aged 4, who is a member of Meadowlands Swim School and was born with one hand
- Abbigail’s mother, Julie Jillians was inspired by her daughter to raise £10,000 to purchase a 3D printer and cartridges to help print upper body parts for children all over the world, and the swim was in aid of this great cause
Speaking after the event, Julie commented:
I want to thank Lisa, Vikki and Jessica for dedicating their time and energy to Abbi’s charity. It was great to see so many people turn up to the pool in support of their swim, and we’re on the way to making the £10,000 target to help lots of other children in similar situations to Abbi.
Jon Smith, Contract Manager at Meadowlands leisure Pool, commented:
Abbi’s Helping Hands is such a great cause and Abbi herself is a fantastic girl, so we were very pleased to offer our facilities free of charge to help raise money in her name. It was a brilliant event, and we look forward to more fundraising in the future!
