National Fitness Day shapes up with local leisure centres offering free fitness classes

Great Dunmow, Lord Butler and Mountfitchet Romeera leisure centres in Uttlesford are holding a selection of free fitness classes for the public on Friday 26th September, to introduce people to different activities and motivate them to get fit. The exciting event takes place in conjunction with National Fitness Day

  • A range of activities will be taking place at the centres on the day, and all of them will be free for both members and non-members
  • Activities on offer will include free core stability classes, which are expected to be a real hit
  • National Fitness Day is the largest celebration of physical activity in the UK and works alongside ukactive, the national organisation for promoting physical activity
  • Hundreds of clubs, parks and leisure centres open their doors to the public, hosting free events for people to try a new exercise, group activity or to just get their heart rate pumping
  • Research suggests that those who exercise in company rather than alone are more likely to stick at it, and National Fitness Day encourages group exercise with a fun social atmosphere
  • Classes are subject to spaces being available

Phil Wallis, Contract Manager at the centres, commented:

I hope that the local residents will feel encouraged to come along and try out a class on the day – maybe to try something they’ve never done before, or to get back into exercise. National Fitness Day is a great way for everyone in the community to get involved and motivate each other to work out
