Batchwood Sports Centre to host disability tennis sessions for local school

Batchwood Golf Course and Sports Centre has joined forces with Watling View School in St Albans, which supports children with a wide range of disabilities, and from 3rd November will host a six-week disability tennis programme for pupils at the school

  • The fully accredited and professional coaches at Batchwood recently attended a disability tennis course arranged with the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), an organisation committed to getting more people involved with tennis
  •  As a direct result of the session, the centre will receive four specialist wheelchairs, enabling them to offer dedicated training courses to pupils at the school to expand their sporting horizons

Alex Bedford, Contact Manager at Batchwood Golf Course and Sports Centre, commented:

We are very excited to have partnered with Watling View School and look forward to coaching the pupils there. We are constantly seeking ways to broaden the programmes and sessions available to our community, and I’m really pleased the LTA has helped us to do this. The new wheelchairs will give the children at Watling View an opportunity to enjoy sport in a way they may not have had otherwise.

Cllr Annie Brewster, Portfolio Holder for Sport, Leisure and Heritage, said:

“These tennis classes are a wonderful new initiative to open up the sport to a wider group of people. Pupils at Watling View School are sure to have a great time playing tennis and keeping fit while taking part in the disability tennis programme. Batchwood Sports Centre hosts a wide range of tennis courses aimed at meeting everyone’s needs. If you are interested in learning how to play tennis or in improving your game there is sure to be something suitable for you.”
