Local woman on the road to national rowing championships in London
After months of training at Peterlee Leisure Centre, local woman Lesley Wright, aged 45, has recently qualified to compete in the National Rowing Championships at the Olympic Park in London next February.
- Lesley from Peterlee entered her first competition in 26 years at Manchester Velodrome after less than six months of training with her personal trainer Tom Clark.
- Representing 1Life, Lesley came third overall and ultimately qualified to compete in the 2000m and 500m races at the National Championships at the Olympic Park in London next year.
I initially entered the competition for a bit of a challenge and to get back into a high level of competing. Never did I think I would come in the top three and qualify to compete in London! My personal trainer, Tom, and the whole 1Life team have been a huge support and I couldn’t have done this without them. I’m now working towards rowing 10,000m and focussing on my strength and cardio ahead of the championships next year.
Wayne Adamson, Contract Manager for Peterlee Leisure Centre, added:
It’s amazing to see how far Lesley has come in such a short space of time and we’re all very proud of her. Her dedication and motivation are just incredible and we can’t wait to see how she gets on at the Olympic Park – and of course we’ll be there to cheer her on every step of the way!
