Nick Aish: From recruitment to running clubs

Having grown up in Romford, Essex, Nick never felt that an academic career was the right option for him. He left secondary school with nine GCSEs and began his A Levels, but had no idea what he wanted to do in the future. With his attendance dwindling in every class but P.E. (which wasn’t an option he had chosen), Nick and his school agreed to part ways.

  • Nick felt that he only really had two options: to work in an office or get a trade. Over the next 20 years he gradually made his way up the corporate ladder, working primarily in the recruitment industry. With over two decades of experience under his belt he was earning good money, although he never fully enjoyed his job
  • Money and experience were not the only things under his belt – there was also plenty of food and drink as a result of long hours in the office. After he reached 22 stone and realised his health and fitness levels were really suffering, he decided to take action and got himself a personal trainer
  • This proved to be a turning point in his life. Not only did he manage to lose nearly 8 stone over four years, but he also began to reassess his career. As he got fitter, Nick’s interest in his office job waned, and he started to consider other opportunities. In 2009 he made the bold decision to quit his position in recruitment and enrol in Premier Training International’s Personal Training Diploma in Dartford. The ten week intensive course gave Nick the chance to finally do something that he really loved

Nick comments:

I’m just coming up to my second anniversary in the industry and although it has been tough at times, which is understandable considering the current financial climate, I am making a career from it. I am currently working as a freelance personal trainer but also provide weight loss workshops for local authorities, and run fitness classes in village halls and running clubs in the local area. I’m so pleased that I took the plunge with Premier Training, and I don’t regret a single thing!
