Olympic dream comes true for Tiddenfoot Lifeguard

A lifeguard at Tiddenfoot Leisure Centre has been selected to work at the Olympic and Paralympic Games having been selected out of 240,000 applicants.

  • Ross Gregory, aged 19, has worked at the centre for the past three years and completed his lifeguard training while studying for his A-levels
  • After applying for a lifeguard position at the London 2012 Ross was one of 100,000 applicants who were interviewed, and now has a place as one of 600 volunteers in the Aquatics team
  • He will be working at both the Olympic and Paralympic Games for 40 days throughout the summer at the Aquatics Centre, as well as Eaton Manor where the warm up pools are situated
  • Andy Laidlow, training assessor at Tiddenfoot, trained Ross when he first started at the centre, and the Olympic recruitment team was impressed by his up to date training records, in particular

Ross Gregory commented:

It’s a dream come true to be working at London 2012, especially after the rigorous selection process. When discussing my NPLQ certificates and training records the interviewers were very impressed with how up to date they were and the training I had received while at Tiddenfoot, so I am very grateful to the team here!

Jeanette Gregory, Business Manager at Tiddenfoot Leisure Centre, commented:

Not only is Ross an asset to the Tiddenfoot team, he is also my son, and I’m really proud of him making it all the way to the Olympics. Andy Laidlow, the training assessor at Tiddenfoot Leisure Centre has done a sterling job of making sure Ross’ training has been kept up to date, and we will all be supporting him on his journey to London 2012.
